Closing Time: Dandy Bear Zine
A visual ode to Dandy Bear, the primary-colored Miami strip mall amusement center that closed forever in March 2022. This zine is a mix of now and then. Shane Sumbu's film photos, taken on Dandy Bear's last day of operation, capture the frenetic energy and bittersweetness of those final hours. Interspersed are childhood memories and photos from Dandy Bear's heyday, sourced from Miami kids. Wherever you're from, you probably had a version of Dandy Bear—a safe escape where roughhousing and winning plastic knickknacks at the arcade were the day's highlights. I hope others can see themselves on these pages, too.
